SUKI

Born in Paris on the 21st of December, Suki is a force. Although the day with the least amount of sunlight of the year, it’s a date packed with an enormous amount of energy. In the northern hemisphere, the winter solstice is regarded by some as a very intuitive time when “the veil between this world and the next is the thinnest.”

After chatting with Suki from her Parisian apartment, it was quite easy to piece together that this multi-faceted young woman is wise beyond her years and irresistibly fascinating. In our conversation we primarily focused on discussing her music, but of course her modeling and recent admittance into automotive mechanic school bobbed to the surface of topics as well.

Her Sagittarian essence coupled with a Pisces moon really makes her the human personification of the Winter Solstice — deeply powerful with a boundless undercurrent of magic running through her veins.

“As I’ve aged and experienced more, I have developed awareness around and control of my emotions.”

“I write a lot…about romance, break-ups, life. It’s not only therapeutic but really fulfilling,” explains Suki. She continues, “As I’ve aged and experienced more, I have developed awareness around and control of my emotions.” When she was younger, she says things used to overwhelm her much more, but as a young woman navigating the world, she’s been able to harness this deep reservoir of emotion to aid her in her creative pursuits crafting alluring magic every step of the way. Whether she is modeling in a print campaign, captured in a movement piece, or singing on a self-written song, Suki stops you in your tracks and mysteriously draws you into her world.

One poignant example of her transcendental nature is captured in her self-shot music video for her single “Blessing” released near the end of 2020. The premise is simple. Suki is singing along to her lyrics with windswept hair, wearing a tiny black bikini in a mid-century modern home on holiday overlooking the Mediterranean

last minute gems

what words of wisdom do you live by?

once nick minaj said, “ rule number 1 to be a boss-ass bitch: never let a clown n***a try

to play you. if he play you, then rule number 2: fuck his best friends, then make 'em

yes-men.” …and i think it’s beautiful.

what memory instantly makes you smile?

during quarantine i was obsessed with nunchucks, so i asked my dad to get me some

and teach me. he came over to give me a pair and proceeded to show me how it works.

as he was doing it he made a huge hole in the ceiling and we couldn’t stop laughing about

it.

what’s your favorite non-business book?

i’m not really an avid reader but when i was younger my teacher gave me these 2 books

that i’m obsessed with - it’s “le horla” by guy de maupassant and “antigone” by jean

anouilh. i read them every summer.

if money were not an issue, what would you be doing right now?

to be honest i think that i would probably be doing the same things i’m doing right now.

maybe travel a bit more.

what words of advice would you give your younger self?

don’t be ashamed of being different. things and people change and you will be surprised

by what the future holds for you.

what’s your super power?

i don’t think i have one but if i could i would definitely pick shape shifting.

what do you regularly take for granted?

everything but nothing at the same time

how do you recharge?

i play video games, take a bath, clean my entire room and watch a shitty movie, works

almost everytime. i also like to spend some time with my pets and my loved ones.

what aspects of your work are you most passionate about?

traveling is definitely the best part! discovering new countries, cities, meeting new

people, having different experiences around the world and being able to create wherever

you are is amazing.

with shots woven throughout of her living effortlessly with her friends. The song is described by Suki as a “nostalgic summer track,” and the visual she created perfectly captures that essence. “I love to edit video and piece things together. So, assembly of the video was another creative outlet for myself,” explains Suki. When asked about the creation of the song and how she would categorize her style of music, Suki says, “to be honest, I really just make what I feel and what feels like a genuine expression of myself. I don’t like to label my music, or fit it into any genre. I honestly don’t think it’s possible. For example, “Blessing” is a track that had many R&B characteristics when I first made it, but it morphed into something completely different by the time I released it. I’m really inspired by electronic sounds, so I can say that my next body of work, due out at the end of spring, will incorporate a lot more of those elements.”

“I’ve always had such a deep love for cars, but realized I didn’t really know much about how they worked, or even how to fix them. I just felt like my knowledge of them had to match my fascination.”

Suki isn’t your ordinary young creative. She’s designing her own rules and following her instincts with every step she takes. For example, she explained that, ”I’ve always had such a deep love for cars, but realized I didn’t really know much about how they worked, or even how to fix them. I just felt like my knowledge of them had to match my fascination. I enrolled in a mechanics school which has been exclusively online due to COVID-19, but next semester I’ll actually be working in the garage. I think I’m the only young girl in the class, so I’m sure I’ll surprise everyone, but I’m also really excited to be a women in this field.” Although it seems like a lot to juggle — budding musical pursuits, a solid modeling career, and automotive mechanics classes, Suki says she feels her best when multi-tasking. “When all of my senses are engaged in something, I feel my most at ease,” Suki explains.

Another well developed area of Suki’s life are her friendships. One of the most important aspects of any relationship whether it is a romantic, professional, familial, or platonic one, if it is to endure, is rooted in deep admiration, respect, and ultimately friendship. Suki stated that when she interacts with her various groups of friends it is in either one of two ways: she’s the caretaker among her peers or with her older, more established friends she is the one being looked after. When she’s with friends closer to her age, she finds herself hosting and making sure everyone is well-taken care of, a love language of hers she appreciates about herself. Diversity in her social circles lets her fully express and receive a full spectrum of love and that is something in which she is appreciative.

If lived freely and truly in the present, life is art, and art is life. Although Suki has yet to make it out of her teens, she already seems to be living artfully and with purpose. She’s a walking juxtaposition of interests, talents, and hobbies perfectly wound together by authenticity and a genuine zest for life. — S 03/08/21

probably philosophy. i had a really cool teacher.

what’s something you wish you had done years earlier?

be more confident about everything i do and i wish i never compared myself to others, i

am now grown up and not doing it anymore but if i could give advice to younger people it

would be this. remember that everyone is different and does everything at their own

pace. you're never too old or too young to do something.

what concept do you fully grasp that you wish the rest of the world deeply understood?

i am part of a generation where a lot of topics (racism, women’s rights, trans and non

so skeptical about it and at least try to learn and educate themselves.

how have your priorities changed over the past 2 years?

Two years ago i was 16 and my only priorities were probably going to starbucks and skater

boys. now i’m getting my shit together and realized that a macchiato and a hot dude are

would you rather fight one horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?

definitely a 100 duck-sized horses ! 100%.

what new skill are you in the midst of learning?

i’m in motor mechanics school at the moment, so i’ve been learning a lot about cars and

guitar/piano and i really want to learn how to play new instruments.

what is something that you’re embarrassed you’re talented at?

tik tok dances.

i went on a hike with my friends last summer, it was hot af outside. when we were going

up the mountain i got bit by the weirdest insect and my arm started to swell real bad, so

this + the hike really pushed it lol.

what’s something that overwhelms you?

EVERYTHING.
